Happy Collaboversary to me! Today marks my first full year designing kits and patterns with Lion Brand! I remember praying for and working towards my first kit, the Regina Blanket Scarf. All of a sudden, one year and 9 kits seem to have happened in a blink of an eye. Living out this particular dream and sticking to the path has been amazing and equally challenging.

Over the past year, I’ve experienced my life, career, and business change in a multitude of ways. It hasn’t always been easy to show up as my best self or produce work consistently. The highs were followed by deep lows of loss and feelings of failure. Yes, I’m living my dream, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t had moments of struggling to quiet my self-doubt. Or moments when I’m overwhelmed with thoughts of financial freedom and the sustainability of my business every release day/weekend. I would love to say it’s only been happily ever after, in all honesty, it hasn’t, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Stick with me here, I promise we’ll get to the good parts.

Foremost, I’m going to keep it real when I share that my work didn’t and still hasn’t gone “viral”. I don’t have all the “yarn girlies going wild”… yet. We’re getting there with each pattern and kit that’s released, interaction, and relationship cultivated. I’ve learned to be proud of all wins, no matter the size. I’ve also learned to accept that my journey is unique to me, and not every aspect of what I’ve defined as success is connected to a financial goal.

I think has been important for me to receive that investing in myself and my business doesn’t mean everything I share or do is, or has to be “for sale”. That may be the case for others but that isn’t the case for me or I Play With Fiber. When I feel at peace with my work and in my body I feel so much bigger and more successful. Making money doing what I love is a huge bonus, turned into a business. Thank you for choosing to reward me with your dollars, presence, encouragement, enthusiasm, and space in your WIP pile!

Speaking of the WIP pile, collaborating with Lion Brand has shown me what it means to cultivate a professional relationship, that leaves me feeling empowered and appreciated. And of course, THE YARN! It’s a privilege to have access to so many amazing fibers. The yarn selection is YOOGE. The quality for the price (because at times I do still buy my yarn) is tough to beat! Lion Brand has made it easy for me to want to continue affiliating myself with the company and its products.

If you’d like more insight into my design process, favorite fibers, or what a collab entails, let me know in the comments! I would love to elaborate more on these subjects if the interest is there! As someone who is, by internet standards, a “small” creator and designer it helps others to see that you don’t require a big audience or a 5-figure blog to align with major brands for collaborations. I’m not yet at the top of my game, but I’m enjoying the climb. I’m seeing the fruits of my passionate labor and enjoying them too.

Without further delay, let’s get into the details of the Hideaway Shrug! This easy crochet shrug pattern is a must-make! If you can make a square, you can make this shrug. This is the perfect grab-and-go statement outerwear piece for your wardrobe during the fall and winter seasons! It’s bulky to keep you warm but also lightweight thanks to its overall ribbed texture.

This pattern is available as a kit [pattern + yarn] from Lion Brand that can be purchased here.

If you don’t need the yarn and want to shop your stash you can purchase the ad-free printable pdf here for keeps.
