Part 2 of my make 9 for 2023 includes a list of 4 modern crochet patterns! I believe this list has versatility in stylish options and a variety of stitches and textures. Because my knitting list had all garments, I opted to focus on accessories for the crochet list. There is one garment topping the list that I believe everyone will enjoy! Expanding my handmade wardrobe with slow fashion projects makes me appreciate and care more for my clothing. This list highlights items that I feel will fill gaps in my current accessories and enhance the essentials I wear frequently! If you’d like a more in-depth explanation of how I plan on styling my finished sweaters check out my YouTube vlog here!

I’ve included links to crochet kits, patterns, and free patterns wherever applicable. Each design has a description given in its designer’s own words. Below you’ll find highlights of my favorite features and design elements of each crochet design. These patterns are in no particular order!

“Inspired by my desire for a cute multi-seasonal layering piece. This pattern is worked from the bottom up, beginning in the round for the body, split for top front and back, and seamed at the shoulders. Stitches are then picked up at each armhole for the sleeves, and stitches are picked up at the neckline for the mock or full turtleneck.” -Whitney Marie Anderson.

Leah Gordon

Hi! I’m Leah, a wife, mother to 4 children, maker, designer, and all things in front and behind I Play With Fiber. From a young age, I considered myself creative and had big dreams of being a designer. I never imagined I would eventually be creating my fabrics by hand, blogging about this journey, or publishing patterns. I’ve been self-publishing since 2018 and began an ongoing partnership with Lion Brand Yarn to produce knit and crochet kits in 2021. Knitting and crocheting have restored my sense of independence and self-confidence. They remind me how capable I am of doing whatever I put my mind to accomplish. My design style blends simple shapes, eye-catching textures, and experimentation with color. My goal with I Play With Fiber is that each of you makes space for moments of mindfulness while crafting timeless pieces.
