The Crochet Collective Wrap is my crochet answer to the Switch Wrap (knit)! I love this wrap because it's a dramatic yet functional wardrobe statement staple piece. This is my kind of outwear accessory. Give me all the drama in volume and texture with a touch of simple traditional shaping. The Crochet Collective Wrap was designed to be worn as a wrap, poncho, or ruana.

You’ll notice that the fabric of this blanket wrap has an overall texture of Herringbone Half Double Crochet Rib. This stitch combines the best of traditional Half Double Crochet (US term) and Herringbone Half Double Crochet to produce a more elastic and resilient ribbed fabric. Intarsia color-blocking simultaneously creates the bordered look and main body of the wrap. Once finished, use the remaining yarn to trim the entire wrap with fringe!

My favorite design element of the Crochet Collective Wrap is its shape. The wide L-shape gives it all the versatility and functionality for however it's styled. This easy level pattern is written for those with a basic understanding of crochet fundamentals and changing colors. I crocheted my sample using one of my favorite bulky weight yarns, Hue and me. I love this yarn because it has a completely cohesive color palette, and the 80/20 acrylic/wool blend makes it a versatile, warm, and resilient fiber. This yarn is a staple in my stash.

I use it quite often for a variety of fall and winter projects. If you’re new to Hue and Me, or if you have wool allergies, your choice of bulky weight yarn that meets gauge should work appropriately as a substitute to complete this design. Analogous color schemes work really well with this design but the possibilities are endless! Analogous colors are colors that appear next to each other on a color wheel. Have fun deciding on your choice of 3 colors and get to stitching!

Notes:

This wrap consists entirely of Herringbone Half Double Crochet(Hhdc). You’ll be working in the BACK LOOPS ONLY for the entire pattern. You won’t chain to begin new rows. You will turn your work at the end of each row. This wrap is worked flat, end to end, utilizes intarsia color changes, and is worked as one panel. See schematic for visual reference when deciding colors.

MATERIALS

• Hue and Me; Artichoke 4 skeins, Mustard 3 skeins, Salt 3 skeins or (1,370 yds of equivalent yarn)

• 7.0mm hook (or hook that meets gauge for Herringbone Half Double Crochet rib, blocked)

NOTIONS

• Scissors

• Tapestry needle

GAUGE (4 x 4")/(10 x 10cm)

• 10 sts x 6.5 rows, Herringbone Half Double Crochet rib

FINAL MEASUREMENTS (flat)

• 60” x 60” L-shaped Panel (not including fringe)

• 152.4cm x 152.4cm

SPECIALTY STITCH

Herringbone Half Double Crochet (Hhdc) — yo, insert hook into st, yo and pull loop through 2nd loop on hook, yo, pull loop through last 2 loops on hook.

*Work into BLO to create rib texture.

PATTERN

With CC 1 ch 151 sts.

Row 1(WS): Hhdc BLO in 2nd ch from hook and in each next ch to end. (150 sts)

Row 2(RS): Do not ch, Hhdc BLO in each st to end.

Rows 3 - 5: Rep Row 2.

Row 6: Hhdc BLO 10 with CC 1, Hhdc BLO 130 with MC, Hhdc BLO 10 with CC 1.

Rows 7 - 32: Rep Row 6.

Row 33: Hhdc BLO 10 with CC 1, Hhdc BLO 130 with MC, break MC, Hhdc BLO 10 with CC 1, break this strand of CC 1.

With CC 2 join to the 50th st from end of row.

Row 34: Hhdc BLO 40 with CC 2, Hhdc BLO 10 with CC 1. (50 sts)

Row 35: Hhdc BLO 10 with CC 1, Hhdc BLO 40 with CC 2.

Rows 36 - 93: Rep Rows 34 - 35.

Rows 94-98: Hhdc BLO to end with CC 1. Break yarn.

FINISHING

Block to final measurements. Make fringe by cutting (195) 8” strands of yarn. Make 3 stacks consisting of (65) strands of each color (or divide the colors to your preference). Use the Lark’s Head Knot method to attach fringe every 2.5-3”(6.35-7.62cm) to trim the border.
